What is the Special Needs Registry?

The Special Needs Registry is a voluntary service offered by Middlesex County. The goal of this registry is for all Middlesex County residents in need of special assistance to get the appropriate help and support they need during an emergency, or during an interaction with Law Enforcement. This is open to all individuals with special needs who reside, attends school, or are employed in Middlesex County.

All information will be kept strictly confidential and will only be utilized by first responders during times of an emergency.

Is there a cost to register?

No, there is no cost. This is a voluntary and free service.

Who should register?

Anyone with a physical or mental impairment who lives, works, or attend school in Middlesex County is eligible to register. Examples of special needs include, but are not limited to:
– Autism
– Mobility issues (wheelchairs, power chairs, walkers)
– Dementia or Alzheimer’s
– Cognitive Impairments
– Oxygen dependency
– Hearing, Vision, or Speech deficits
– Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
– Mental Health Issues
– Dialysis Dependent
– Paralysis / Stroke Patients
– Developmental / Intellectual disabilities
– Life Threatening Allergies

How does someone register?

An individual can register themselves, or they can be registered by a caretaker or a family member. If someone is registering an adult other than themselves, they must have that person’s permission or be the legal guarding of the individual they are registering. Registering is available online via our secure website.

What information is necessary to register someone?

The registration process includes registrant’s personal identifiers such as their name, address, date of birth, height, weight, emergency contact information, recent photo, and some details about their special needs. Optional information fields include more detailed medical history, and social worker information.

Special Needs Registry Decals

Each registrant will be provided with decals that can be placed on the front entrance of the registrant’s residence as well as on the window of any vehicle in which they regularly travel. The purpose of the decal is to signify to the first responders that someone in the residence/vehicle has some degree of special need and they should respond accordingly. The use of decals by registrants is strictly voluntary and is not mandatory to the program.
